Our Teachers

All four classes have head teachers with advanced degrees in early-childhood education as well as years of hands-on experience. Oak Lane is proud of our very low staff turnover – most our teachers and teaching assistants have been with Oak Lane for more than six years. We employ several part time assistant teachers in order to provide additional coverage in the classrooms. Oak Lane serves as a "lab school" for colleges in the area. Many of their students come to our center to fulfill their interships.

Our teacher-student ratio exceeds the state licensing standards.

  • Acorns (18 mos – 3 years): 4 full-time teachers for 13 children
  • Chestnuts (3 – 4 yrs): 2 full-time teachers for 9 children
  • Walnuts (3 – 4 yrs): 2 full-time teachers for 12 children
  • Coconuts (4 – 5 yrs): 3 full-time teachers for 16 children
All Oak Lane teachers are certified in CPR and Infant & Child First Aid. The teachers also perform fifteen hours of in-service training every year.

We also support our students with special needs by welcoming and supporting itinerant specialists in speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and special education.

Enrichment

Good childcare promotes exposing children to all kinds of different activities to get those brains synapses firing! Our schedule includes monthly visits from educational specialists who bring music, animals, storytelling, science and more to the center. The Chestnuts,Walnuts and Coconuts also participate in monthly field trips to museums, local playhouses, and nature centers. Parents are always welcome on the field trips.
